Some games get 90% of it right and then completely screw you with one design choice.
Could be forced stealth in an action game. Could be a stamina bar that kills exploration. Could be romance systems that feel like a checklist, or escort missions that make you want to break the controller. Sometimes one bad mechanic is enough to sour the whole thing, no matter how good the rest is.
I've seen plenty of good setups fall apart because someone thought adding one more system would make it better. It didn't. FF7 Remake's chapter pacing in some spots felt like artificial padding when the combat was already strong enough to carry it. You don't need to overcomplicate what works.
