Do you have any songs or albums you've listened to that has left a major impact on your life?

For me it was Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie. It starts off with simple percussion, piano, and vocals, and it swells into a cry. A confession. A bid, almost a plea.

I need you so much closer.

It's about growing apart from your lover on paper, but that simple line has meant different things to me at different points in my life. Loving someone, losing someone, yearning for connection, shame brought about by severing ties I knew couldn't be tied again. It's a beautiful song both in composition and in melody.

Tell me about yours :)

Mainstream, though it may be, Helena by My Chemical Romance comes to mind.

Hearing it just reminds me of a better time in my life. A time when I was not only happier, but several shitty events had not happened yet, so, of course, the results of said shitty events hadn't yet chipped away at my mental state.

sounds cheesy but any labi striffe song or earlier alex G always comforting

Mine is definitely Kelsey by Metro Stationwoman-8390124.jpg

An old friend of mine sent it to me as a way to confess to me in the middle of winter 2023. We’ve been friends for so long & honestly still consider him my platonic soulmate. I was dumb & didn’t get the hint then ended up falling for him in Fall of 2024. We decided not to ruin our friendship as it can be complicated especially given our age gap (2 consenting adults 25 & 30 ) & distance. We both also struggle with communication due to different diagnoses & know it wouldn’t be the best.

I listen to it when I’m feeling low & need to be reminded that I have someone there for me who grew up in the same kind of household I did & is quite literally the male version of me. It helps me breathe. He’s very successful in the Film industry & worked really hard given where we come from. It reminds me I’ll make it 2. :))

I have a couple!

Castle of Glass by Linkin Park

Early Sunset Over Monroeville by My Chemical Romance

Both songs have gotten me through some pretty tough times. I used to sit out on my roof and listen to these songs when I felt trapped and needed a good cry.

Absolutely one of mine too. I prefer the shorter edit. There is a lovely metaphor in how the 7 minute version feels like it's endless, having said that.

A fellow Death Cab fan! ❤️ they are forever one of my favorite bands, Ben Gibbard is an incredible lyricist. I think the one of theirs that always hits me is Bixby Canyon Bridge. Not sure why, it's just sang so poignantly and I can relate to that feeling of trying to find some kind of...guidance, awakening, epiphany...in a place, but in reality it's just a place. I was already a Death Cab fan when the Narrow Stairs album came out but that one made me a mega-fan.

Another one for is the song "Tomorrow's Gonna Be a Brighter Day" by Jim Croce. He's a folk singer/songwriter from the 70s that my dad would play on his guitar a lot, and some of my earliest memories are of my dad and his guitar in the living room while I sang old 70s rock songs with him. I remember him playing a lot of Jim Croce, Lynryrd Skynyrd and Scorpions.

Jim is another amazingly poetic lyricist... I do just love me a beautifully written song.

I swear all early video game sound tracks make me feel something. A Zelda soundtrack is my ringtone haha

I’ve been getting into goth music a little bit. I don’t have a favorite song or band. I just love the music and the vibes. Something about it hits different than other music I listen to. It’s like it matches the way I feel or my mood if that makes sense lol

Johnny Cash , YungBlud, Marilyn Manson, xxtentacion, those come to mind for music that really impacted me. Especially the Born Villain album by Manson, was the first music I ever got for myself
