  • Similar to Greg, I think that most of the time I do things just to do them and get them out of the way. Procrastinating makes me feel like crap. I develop an eye twitch when I put things off too long, even if it's not at the front of my mind. It's totally a subconscious stress, and the twitching didn't start until my mid 20's when I fell off mentally and just did really bad in University. Odd how our own behaviors literally affect our body's regulation and chemical processes. The brain is a strong organ, man!
It's hard because I am not super motivated by money, so work-related tasks are motivated by just, "well, if I get fired from this job it's going to really suck even harder, so I'll just keep trucking along." At one point in time, when I had people to care for and wanted to support, I was flying high at the top of my career. It's sounds kind of silly, like, why am I more motivated to take care of others, instead of myself? I never really figured out that one. It's not even a saint-like motivator, it's just like, "man, if I don't help this person out it's going to be all my fault. They're relying on me." But then I can't rely on myself when I'm working for a personal financial goal.
Anyway, it's enlightening to read this thread. Thanks for sharing!

  • Me too! Have you found anything super interesting?
I found out that my grandfather first immigrated to the US, then his two eldest sons the next year, then his wife and daughters a few years later. I'd just assumed they all came together at the same time. It's a fun thought-project to put yourself in their shoes and ponder how different their lives looked.

  • Your book covers, both AI and OC, look amazing! Medieval history is a unique niche of a hobby, it's cool you have a YouTube to attract like-minded people. Don't have any shame!
I am ghostwriting an extensive biography for an influential public figure. My first book. It's amazing that I was given this opportunity with such little experience. The contract for royalties was extremely generous. I hope it becomes a big success when it's published!
Another project I am working on is researching my family tree. There's very little documented, and I may be the last person who can tell the story. I love researching online!
On a personal note, one project I would like to start is journaling, or having a diary. I am an extremely private person. I keep many secrets to myself, I don't share a lot to people IRL. I think this will help me to be more social, because now I won't be repressing my thoughts completely, I'll have an outlet for it.
I wonder, did anybody have diaries when they were growing up? Did your mom snoop through and read it your entire life, unbeknownst to you, like mine did? It kind of really ruins you and messes you up. Deep, deep thoughts that are intended to be unshared should remain always private. The fact that it's such a common theme, "I used to love journaling, but then someone invaded my privacy and ruined it forever for me!" is a tough pill to swallow. Why do so many parents feel it necessary to be "in," on your deepest, darkest secrets? Gross behavior. Traumatizing.
I think, after 2 decades passing since my privacy was invaded, I'm ready to try again. With a lock on the book this time. I love encouraging other writers to get back into their roots. Great question!

I’m an Atheist. As for the reason why, it’s a very long story but to be succinct, I just read a lot about Christianity’s history and the handful of accounts outside of the Bible where the details are vague at best. I realized that I didn’t have a good reason to believe aside from the indoctrination of Catholicism at an early age. In my adult life, I have learned to apply critical thinking skills to all facets of my life. The time to believe in something is when there is sufficient evidence and I haven’t seen that with any god or an afterlife for that matter. However, I understand that many people like the thought of someone — a deity — “looking out” for them and I’d never shame anyone for those beliefs just because I don’t share them.

I have read all of Onision's books, and I was wondering what his process is, like outlining, etc. Im an aspiring writer and I was wondering how he went about the writing process, as well as getting an editor/publisher.
